PU glovesbuying low quality, low priced boxing glovesmay not be a good bargain after all |

| In a global market where
mediocrity is the standard, cowhide is becoming rare,
expensive and might be considered as an unnecessary luxury by many
fighters. The
majority of non-leather gloves are manufactured
using various material such as PU, PVC,
"synthetic leather" or pure plastic. The best
quality brands are from Pakistan, Italy, U.S.A and Thailand; the worst
are from China. Some PU gloves look pretty good and often are able to stand the comparison with the good-quality ones in cowhide, in terms of manufacturing skills, stitchings, shape, appearance, and so on. Many are very modern in design and display attractive designs and screenings. Nowadays, PU is the largest market. It is so popular that even TWINS and FAIRTEX have quietly added a few PU items to their catalog. Most importantly, all PU equipment generally costs half of the same in cowhide, or even less. A pair of top-of-the-range FAIRTEX boxing gloves may cost even 3-4 times more than a similarly designed pair of gloves made with PU. And for a good reason: the best cowhide, combined with the best soft latex, are the basic factors behind a good product, which not only lasts much longer, but totally protects your hands and wrist. Avoiding injuries, so common in bag training and sparring, should be the primary concern of every nak muay. The pictures below show the inside of a PU glove at the top of its category, in terms of quality. It was made in Thailand.
Protect your hands. Buy good-quality cowhide boxing gloves. |
