Muay Boran was virtually unknown outside Thailand until a few years ago. Now that many people have "discovered" it, they need to dress the part. The "uniform" of a muay boran practictioner is important, as this art is mostly for demonstration. The appropriate gear for consist of large pants, usually red, fastened around the waist with a paa kamaa, a multi-purpose cotton scarf. A sleeveless red jacket with the A.I.T.M.A. logo is appropriate for official gatherings. For combat, one must wear hemp strings (kaad chuak) tied around hands and forearms, up to the elbow, prajiat around the biceps and a mongkol, which shows the degree of proficiency, on the head.
